The development of friendships and romantic relationships
goes through many stages. These stages are analyzed using transactional
analysis insights, including 15 original concepts developed over the past 25
years by Stephen Karpman. In this lively presentation, articulated with clear
diagrams and interesting examples, Dr. Karpman covers:
- The ABCs of relationship development (attraction,
bonding, communication) and relationship decline (agendas, bargaining,
conflict)
- The "Kid Grid," "Opener Styles," "Sibling Order
Attraction," and "Lover Preferences"
- Communication skills, including the "Three Rules of
Openness" and "The Game Player's Rules of Miscommunication"
- Listening and games
- Communication control by ego state
Stephen Karpman, MD, is an ITAA Teaching Member and twice
