Ego State Boundary Problems: Diagnosis and
Treatment
featuring Muriel James, EdD
In this video, internationally renowned author and master
therapist Muriel James leads a workshop on ego state boundary problems and how
they affect personality structure and interpersonal relations. The theory of
ego state boundaries was developed by Eric Berne, who believed they should be
semipermeable so that a person's energy could shift by use of the will and/or
in response to situational change. Learn how to diagnose and treat the
following four common ego state boundary problems:
- When energy is diffused and a person is confused and
disorganized, it may be due to situational or ongoing lax ego state boundaries.
- When clear thinking is interfered with by opinions or
prejudices, fears, or anxieties from the Parent and/or the Child ego state, a
person is likely to have a contaminated Adult ego state.
- When an ego state boundary is rigid, some of the person's
energy is blocked or excluded.
- When a severe emotional injury from the past has not
healed, the person may explode irrationally if this lesion or "injury" is hit.
